Europe is a big market for Smart Phones. But amazingly this huge market is still dominated by Symbian which is hardly considered as a viable competitor in Smart Phone world. Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android have become so dominant that they have left little room for even RIM’s Blackberry which was not so long ago considered as the only Smart Phone. But sometimes the realities are much different than talks in Tech world and that’s what exactly is the case here. Symbian still holds the biggest share in Smart Phone market in Europe.
But things are changing now and none other Android is picking the market pretty fast. According to a report published on comScore Android has almost tripled its market share from last year to this year. And that is a huge number. The most popular handsets are from HTC followed by Samsung.
Android’s growth in this part of world seems more amazing when you consider that this market is dominated by Symbian and for those users the obvious shift would have been Microsoft because of potential merger between Nokia and Microsoft. But that is still a rumor and whether it happens or not remains to be seen. And this confusion may be the biggest reason of people leaving Symbian. But still I think its a huge success on part of Google that they are attracting people that fast
